Job Description: 2 February 2026 start date Completion of all mandatory CICM requirements for progression into Transition Year CICM fellowship examination About the Role The ICU Transition Fellow role is a senior appointment within our Intensive Care Unit and is accredited by CICM. The Transition Year roles in ICU at SVHM are appointed as a transition to consultant practice. The position allows senior trainees to perform the role of a junior consultant, managing patients and junior staff as such. The Transition Year role can be accepted as a general year however for applicants with a particular interest the role can be streamed to focus on one of education, echocardiography or research. Other areas of interest can be proposed and considered on an individual basis. Details of consultant supervised non-clinical activities relevant to each stream are detailed in the attached position description. Dedicated and protected non-clinical time is provided to allow development of your portfolio of interest. You are expected to have broad skills in: Assessment Triage Resuscitation Further management of patients with acute medical and surgical disorders Providing supervision and support to aid junior trainees in acquiring these skills You are expected to be comfortable with techniques and procedures associated with Respiratory, Cardiovascular and Renal support. Opportunities exist to consolidate skills in flexible bronchoscopy, echocardiography and percutaneous tracheostomy insertion. Transition Year fellows will have the opportunity to take first on-call overnight with consultant backup. In addition to clinical responsibilities, you should be confident to take on the organisation and delivery of junior medical staff teaching sessions that occur weekly and are encouraged to participate in other nonclinical activities of the unit including administration, quality assurance and research. Although high in acuity and patient severity of illness, ICU at SVHM maintains high performance and outstanding patient outcomes. The unit has accreditation for 24 months of core training with the College of Intensive Care Medicine including cardiothoracic and neurointensive care and the position is accredited by CICM as a Transition Year Role.
